Solar Water Heating

Solar water heating is a popular choice for people planning to stay in their homes for a long period of time. Why is this you may ask, and what is considered a long period of time to stay in one home? Both good questions! Most people expect a solar water heater to pay for itself by reduction of their electricity bill. This means to gain a financial benefit from this perspective, you have to stay in your home for 7 to 10 years. Approximately 75% of New Zealand's population move homes every 5 years.

So who should be installing this product then? There are a number of people for whom solar water heating will work very well, for example:

  •  For anyone living off grid, it is a must have! No other water heating source gives you the same bang for your buck under off grid conditions.

  • Anyone considering building a new home for themselves that they intend to stay in. (Solar is generally not a good option for spec builders.)

  • People who seriously care about the environment and the impact they are making.

  • Anyone seriously concerned about the rapid increase in the size of their power bill.

Mirak solar water heating is our company also. We have spent an extraordinary amount of time learning about how solar works and how to make it work for you. To successfully install solar water heating, the first thing you need to know is how much hot water you use. Guess what - everyone is different! So what is the answer then?

Easy - talk to us! We can measure or calculate your current hot water use no matter how you currently heat it. From this we can specify the exact system you need.

The most critical area in a system specification is the cylinder. We have installed approximately 40 systems over 5 years. 95% of the system problems we have encountered have been with poorly specified hot water cylinders, or retrofitting solar to existing hot water cylinders.
